Burj Dubai - World’s Tallest Building 2008
World’s tallest building just got taller

The world’s tallest building just got taller — the Burj Dubai tower in the booming Gulf emirate of Dubai has now reached a height of 688 metres (2,257 feet) and is still growing, developers Emaar said on Tuesday.
It now boasts 160 storeys, the highest skyscraper in the world, Emaar said in a statement.
The skyscraper, set for completion in September 2009, is one of several mega projects taking shape in Dubai, which is a member of the oil-rich United Arab Emirates (UAE) federation.
Burj Dubai, which was started in 2004, overtook Taiwan’s Taipei 101 tower as the world’s tallest building when it reached 512 metres (1,533 feet) in April 2007.
It became the tallest man-made structure on the planet, when Emaar announced in April that it has surpassed the 629-metre (2,063-foot) KVLY-TV mast in the United States.
Its eventual height remains a closely-guarded secret, though there is speculation it will reach a final height of 900 metres (2,953 feet).
Robots will have power to arrest by 2084
Crime-fighting robots with access to citizen databases will be patrolling the streets by 2084, according to an academic at the University of Sheffield.
Robotics expert Professor Noel Sharkey predicts that humanoid robots, that are able to arrest people, will have access to integrated databases of information on British citizens, including bank accounts, tax and movements, to enable them to identify who people are.
The “superior knowledge robots” will, according to Sharkey, be able to use their “super strength and inability to feel pain” to arrest criminals.
They will have human features and will be able to detect weapons including guns, knives and explosives, and recognise drunks and aggressive behaviour in large areas.
By 2070, police will also have the aid of autonomous police cars, which will be able to recognise speeding cars, identify license plates and automatically take fines from bank accounts and add points on driving licences.
The project examined the future of the robot in the UK and how it will be developed to aid police. The research was based on recent robotic developments around the world, and on current ideas and trends from robotics experts.

London lawyers boast of game-sharing crackdown
A firm of London lawyers claims it’s “stepping up the fight” against people who illegally share computer games.
We revealed in May how legal firm Davenport Lyons was demanding in excess of £600 from people accused of illegally sharing a single game.
At the time, Davenport Lyons refused to discuss the issue with PC Pro. Now it’s hired PR agency Bell Pottinger Business & Brand to trumpet its crackdown.
The firm says it will launch proceedings
against 100 people from the UK “suspected of illegally uploading a number of copyright works.”
It further claims “several thousand names and addresses have already been ordered by the High Court of London to be released by the internet providers concerned” and that another application waiting to be issued is demanding an additional 6,000 addresses.
Until now, there has been precious little evidence that Davenport Lyons was prepared to follow through on its demands for payment if accused file-sharers refused to pay up (read our investigation here).
However, the company claims a recent decision at the Central London County Court resulted in four people being ordered to make an interim payment of £750 and pay costs, in advance of a final judgement. PC Pro has been so far unable to verify these claims.
Daveport Lyons’ clients include Topware, makers of Dream Pinball 3D, and German game company Zuxxex.

Pakistan militants kill woman accused of spying
Woman executed for allegedly helping the United States, being a prostitute
KHAR, Pakistan - Militants in Pakistan executed a woman after accusing her of being a spy for the U.S. and a prostitute, and said others would face the same fate, a government official and villagers said on Wednesday.
It was the first time that a woman had been killed in northwest Pakistan after being accused of spying, although militants have killed many men they accused of helping U.S. forces in neighboring Afghanistan.
The body of the unidentified woman was found dumped beside a road near the town of Khar in the Bajaur region on the Afghan border, a hotbed of support for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
A note was found with the body, a government official said.
“She was killed because she was an American spy and a prostitute and those who found doing such activities will face the same fate,” said the official, who declined to be identified, citing the note.
A villager said the woman had apparently been strangled as there were rope marks on her neck.
“I didn’t see any bullet or knife wounds,” he said.

Internet providers agree to block child porn sites
![Computer [www.talalmasood.com]](http://www.talalmasood.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/computer.jpg)
Three major Internet provides have agreed to block access to websites and online discussion groups featuring child pornography, New York state attorney general said Tuesday.
“The pervasiveness of child pornography on the Internet is horrific and it needs to be stopped,” Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said in a statement on the agreement with Verizon, Sprint and Time Warner Cable.
“We are attacking this problem by working with Internet Service Providers to ensure they do not play host to this immoral business,” he said, adding that the agreement “should serve as a model for the entire industry.”
Internet providers had initially refused to control the content of communication between online users, but they finally agreed to block the pedophile content, Cuomo said.
The agreement covers the entire United States and Cuomo said he was negotiating similar deals with other Internet providers.
“Online child pornography represents one of the worst abuses of the Internet,” said Jeff Zimmerman, senior vice president and chief ethics officer at Time Warner Cable.
“Among the steps Time Warner Cable is taking are removing Newsgroups from our Internet service,” Zimmerman said, referring to online discussion groups.
Verizon, with 8.2 million users, and Time Warner, with 7.9 million, are among the five largest Internet provides in the world. Sprint is one of the three biggest mobile phone companies.

Microsoft-Yahoo deal may go hostile
SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp. may go hostile in its bid for Yahoo Inc. as soon as Friday, according to a published report.
Citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported early Friday that the world’s largest software maker may be preparing to go straight to Internet pioneer Yahoo’s shareholders.
An announcement was “likely” to come Friday, according to the report, though the newspaper said its sources cautioned that Microsoft may delay.

Aliens? Spy Satellite has destroyed. How?
![Satellite Explode [www.talalmasood.com]](http://www.talalmasood.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/satellite_explode.jpg)
Just like the Navy told us, they shot that nasty satellite out of the sky with the kind of laser-like precision they’ve been claiming they’re capable of for years. At right around 10:30 this evening, expensive missiles were fired from the deck of the USS Lake Erie, traveling into space at an excess of 5,000mph, which then slammed into the Alien / zombie-juice / Russian controlled satellite (which itself was traveling at 17,000mph). Right now details are still sketchy on just how much damage was done to the object, but word on the street (aka, from the Navy) is that just about any hit to the satellite would put it out of our misery, due to the speed and trajectory at which it’s traveling. The story is still developing, so if any of the zombie spore does manage to reach Earth and spark an undead holocaust, we’ll be the first to let you know.
CNN Report says US NAVY fired the missle to shoot down the falling satellite.
